"I am an ardent believer that EDI should be embedded in all aspects of our university and departments to build a fair and inclusive environment to work and learn in. The work that I do is purpose and data driven and I aim to bring that into the new WICC committee.

This committee will strive to elevate all voices including our minoritised staff and students to develop an action plan aimed at social justice and inclusion."

Wellbeing, Inclusion and Culture Committee (WIC)

While many of us feel lucky to be a part of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences (CBS), we acknowledge that there is still room for learning and improvement as we move into and build inclusive structures in our new Department.

The Department Leadership team, along with our EDI Lead and WICC members, are dedicated to establishing these structures and creating spaces that foster inclusive working and learning environments, dedicated to maximising the well-being of all our colleagues.  Therefore, our goal will be to celebrate the strengths, productivity and resilience that a truly diverse, kind and inclusive community will generate, both in our working practices and general well-being.

About WIC Committee

Our newly formed departmental WICC team will aim to:

  1. Understand what was going well, and where and how to focus our energies to improve.
  2. Co-create reasonable and effective solutions with all our communities. Therefore, as we build and begin to share information on this page, please share your unmet needs with us.
  3. Provide strategic leadership and champion the enhancement and embedding of EDI in staff and student experience throughout the Department (education, research and student and staff support).
  4. Elevate representative voices of staff and students, empowering them to lead various themes in the committee.
  5. Develop a live, annually reviewed EDI Action Plan Document (similar to Teaching Excellence Action Plan).
  6. Encourage stronger partnerships between staff, students (UG + PGT) and ECRs to reach our goals.
  7. Create a supportive, safe environment for staff and students with protected characteristics in the Department to raise to any issues related to their sense of belonging, concerns related to any form of discrimination that they might have experienced and to seek support.
  8. Promote awareness and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusivity issues within the Departments through delivering events, talks, training programmes.
