Bryony Longdon is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Children and Young People's Mental Health (ChYMe) research collaboration. Bryony’s work is mainly focused on school based randomised controlled trials; she believes that schools provide an excellent opportunity for universal interventions, especially when trying to improve mental health for all.

Bryony is currently working on Project Playtime, a feasibility study examining how improving children’s play opportunities within school might affect their wellbeing, mental health and enjoyment of school. The study is looking at OPAL, a school based play programme.

Bryony previously worked on the Stand Together trial which evaluated the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of KiVa (a Finnish school based anti-bullying programme) to reduce bullying in primary schools. This large randomised controlled trial worked with 116 primary schools across England and Wales (https://standtogethertrial.weebly.com/)

Bryony worked on both of the Supporting Teachers in childRen in Schools (STARS) trials. The STARS-2 trial investigated the impact of the Incredible Years Teacher Classroom Management programme on child and teacher wellbeing, specifically improving child behaviour and academic attainment and improving teachers’ sense of professional efficacy and mental health. The trial worked with 140 schools across England. The original STARS trial worked with 80 primary schools and over 2000 families in Devon.

Previously Bryony was the data manager of the ‘Improving the experience of dementia and enhancing active life: IDEAL programme. IDEAL is the largest study of living well with dementia in the UK.
