Module description
Effective communication and holistic clinical assessment are central to interactions with patients in healthcare. This module will give you a background in the systematic approaches around history taking, physical examinations and communication techniques to encourage behaviour change for healthy lifestyles.
Learning activities will encourage reflection, discussion.
This module is suitable for healthcare professionals who wish to develop their skills in developing effective patient partnerships for delivering patient-centred clinical care.
Module aims - intentions of the module
This module aims to develop your confidence and understanding of clinical assessments and empowering patients to self-care. Patient-centred issues in healthcare will be explored along with along ethical issues, communicating with specific patient groups and their carers, and written communication.
Additionally, the basics of physical examination and behaviour change techniques will be covered.

• Identifying the ideas, concerns and expectations of the patient
• Clinical examination skills with a focus on vital signs, the cardiovascular and respiratory systems

• Techniques for promoting patient activation and self-care
