Module description
In this module you will focus on applying the learning from your masters study to your own work place or a work-related project. You will be encouraged to identify an area within your own practice where your studies are influencing, or has the potential to influence, healthcare. This will form the basis for a short case based portfolio of study. This portfolio will embed learning within the context of your own work environment and could relate to patient cases, education or research. Through critical analysis you will evaluate current evidence / practice and demonstrate skills in identifying barriers or facilitators to change and will provide recommendations to improve care / practice within your area.
Module aims - intentions of the module
This module explores the influence of new developments within the students own sphere of professional practice. These will be discussed and key areas for further study will be identified. The module aims to explore research in practice through critical analysis, evaluation of different types of evidence and through a short case based portfolio the students will develop recommendations to improve translate knowledge into tangible developments in practice. This module will develop understanding of the complexities of introducing / advancing knowledge within practice whilst considering any relevant ethical issues and will enable students to explore strategies to improve the integration / translation of knowledge to improve healthcare.

Syllabus plan
Whilst the module’s precise content may vary, an example of an overall structure is as follows:
- Group discussion within the students work place or work-related project
- Identification of particular areas for study within the module relating to practice
- Refining of ideas / discussion of techniques of critical analysis
- Identifying different types of evidence relating to the topic area
- Discussion of portfolio plan
- Student presentation to group of preliminary findings (formative assessment)

Re-assessment notes
In the event of you failing a module, you will be given a chance to resubmit the failed components that led to the overall module failure. This will normally be within six weeks of the overall module result being known, except in the case of written and/or practical examinations which may take longer to reschedule. The module result will then be capped at 50.
