Dr. Tim Podlogar is an exercise physiologist primarily interested in sports nutrition, exercise metabolism, environmental physiology, and endurance performance. His main goals are to better understand metabolism before, during, and after exercise, and how this is affected by the ingestion of different macronutrients. Additionally, he aims to apply this knowledge in practical settings to enhance athletes' performance.

Dr. Podlogar completed his undergraduate studies in Kinesiology at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 2015. He then moved to the University of Birmingham, where he obtained his MSc (2016) and PhD (2020) in carbohydrate metabolism under the supervision of Dr. Gareth Wallis. After completing his PhD, he held a postdoctoral position for a year at the Jožef Stefan Institute in Slovenia, working under Dr. Tadej Debevec to investigate ketone body and menthol supplementation in extreme environments. Around the same time, he became an Assistant Professor of Exercise Physiology at the University of Primorska, Slovenia.

In late 2021, Dr. Podlogar returned to the University of Birmingham as a Research Fellow, collaborating with Dr. Gareth Wallis on a project investigating the effects of heat acclimation on exogenous carbohydrate oxidation rates. After completing this project in September 2024, Dr. Podlogar joined the University of Exeter as a Lecturer.
