About me:

Tim Taylor is an Associate Professor in Environmental and Public Health Economics. He has been at Exeter since 2011. Previously he was a Research Officer at the University of Bath and a Consultant with Metroeconomica Limited (both 1998 to 2011). Tim’s research addresses the valuation of environmental and health impacts and the use of valuation in policy making including cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness. He also has worked on models of ecological public health. Tim has acted as a consultant to the European Commission, the World Bank, Defra and UNEP on issues of environmental sustainability.

Tim is co-Director of Global Engagement in the Department of Public Health and Sport Sciences. Tim is also a Climate Advocate, part of a team of academics feeding in to the University's response to the Climate Emergency.

In terms of research, Tim has worked on a range of topics across the environment and public health field. Current work investigates the impact of climate change on environmental pathogens in the BlueAdapt project, the value of greenspaces for public health (in the Groundswell project) and barriers to entrepreneurship in Cornwall.

Tim has published in a number of academic journals, including Ecological Economics, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Climatic Change and Public Health.

Interests:

Tim is heavily involved in interdisciplinary research. Previously he was on the management boards of several large integrated projects under the European Commission’s FP6, covering topics on marine ecosystems, peri-urban land use and industrial externalities. He has been involved in research funded in FP7 and H2020 on issues relating to climate change, blue environments and climate change mitigation.

Tim’s current research includes economic valuation of the co-benefits of climate mitigation, cost-benefit analysis of interventions to encourage healthy and sustainable lifestyles, the economics of climate related disease, energy poverty, nature based solutions and coastal pathogens, He is interested in ecological public health.

Tim was the initial PI of the SMARTLINE project, which is funded by the ERDF. SMARTLINE is examining the potential for technological innovations in the area of eWellbeing to improve wellbeing - and the business opportunities that may exist around these. The SMARTLINE project included Coastline Housing, Cornwall Council and Volunteer Cornwall as partners.

Tim is leading the Exeter team in the BlueAdapt Horizon Europe project, which is examining the impact of climate change on environmental pathogens and the consequential impacts on health.
