Tom is an Education and Scholarship-focused academic in the Department of Sport and Health Sciences at the University of Exeter. He teaches Exercise Physiology across all three years of the undergraduate programme and also contributes to teaching at MSc level. In addition, he supervises undergraduate and postgraduate (MSc) research projects and serves as a personal tutor, supporting student development across the department.

 

Before joining Exeter, Tom worked at University College London (UCL), where he was Deputy Programme Lead for Sport & Exercise Medical Sciences and led modules in Exercise Physiology and Sport & Exercise Performance Optimisation across BSc, MSc, and iBSc programmes.

Tom's research interests include the role of supplementation in health and exercise performance, and he maintains a strong interest in evidence-based practice in applied sport science.

 

Alongside academia, Tom has worked in elite sport, spending several years as a Performance Analyst at Fulham Football Club across both the academy and first team. He was part of the club’s successful 2019/2020 promotion campaign to the Premier League. He has also worked with GB Women’s Hockey, supporting their nutrition and medical teams in preparation for the 2024 summer Olympics in Paris. 

 

Tom has been teaching in higher education for over six years and remains committed to widening participation and access to medical and sport sciences.
