Mr Brian O'Toole

About me:

Brian graduated from the National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG) in 2012 with a Masters in Health Economics. His keen interest in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) led him to secure a position with the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC). Over a 6 year career with the SMC, he conducted 80 HTA’s, developing a breadth of clinical and health economic knowledge. He has also been a key member of national decision making committees including the New Drugs Committee (NDC), the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) and the Scottish Health Technologies Group (SHTG).

Within his current role in PENTAG as Research Fellow in Health Economics and Health Policy, Brian works within an Evidence Review Group (ERG) where he undertakes HTA on behalf of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). He is currently pursuing a PhD relating to NICE’s appraisal process of medicines for rare conditions, known as the Highly Specialised Technology (HST) evaluations.

In his spare time, Brian enjoys surfing and hill walking.
