PenCHORD Research Fellow

 South Cloisters 2.31

South Cloisters, University of Exeter, St Luke's Campus, Heavitree Road, Exeter, EX1 2LU, UK

Overview

I joined PenCHORD in 2020, and have an interest in applied health and social care modelling, simulation and data analytics to improve understanding and provide decision-support for health and care services.

I completed an ESRC post-doctoral fellowship in October 2022.

I have a clinical background in physiotherapy from the University of Queensland (Australia), an MSc in Human Factors (applied psychology), and completed my PhD at the University of Exeter Business School. I have a particular interest in how people interact with technology to inform action.

Research

Research projects

Improving Patient flow between Acute, Community and Social care (IPACS)

This 3-year project is funded by HDRUK and is in collaboration with NHS BNSSG CCG, the University of Exeter, and University of Bristol.

Using simulation tools, the IPACS project aims to investigate what may constitute an optimal balance of capacity along complex discharge pathways and assess how responsive total spend in the local health and social care economy might be in relation to the capacity of domiciliary-based care.

Hospital Efficiency Project (HEP)

This HDRUK-funded project within the Bristol Better Care Partnership programme aims to support acute trusts to manage the Covid-19 related elective demand backlog. In particular, we work closely with clinicians and managers within trusts to develop tools (such as discrete-event simulation) to help the scheduling and prioritisation of patient appointments.
