Susannah is a Registered Nurse, working as a Senior Lecturer and Clinical Practice Lead for the Academy of Nursing. She worked as part of a small team to secure Nursing and Midwifery Council approval for the MSci Nursing programme with no conditions attached, and remains integral to the ongoing development of the curriculum.
Susannah trained at the University of Birmingham and her first job as a qualified nurse involved caring for a wide range of medical and surgical patients in an acute hospital setting. Susannah held two subsequent posts in Accident and Emergency, before travelling the world and working as a Nursing Officer and Senior Nursing Officer on passenger cruise ships.
After returning to dry land, Susannah completed a Master in Public Health degree at the University of Birmingham, whilst continuing to work in the Emergency Department setting. She then held a Lecturer post at the University of Wolverhampton, where she was part of a small team developing and delivering a Nursing Associate pilot course and a subsequent Nursing Associate Apprenticeship.
Susannah is an active member of the International Learning Collaborative, an international network bringing people together to improve the delivery of fundamental care in health systems. She aspires to improve standards of fundamental care by providing high quality educational opportunities to current and future nurses. Susannah’s main areas of interest and expertise include emergency nursing, fundamental nursing care, health promotion, health improvement, healthy eating and obesity, work-based learning, partnership working and curriculum development.

Susannah holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Education for Health, Social Care and Allied Professionals and is registered by the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Nurse Tutor. She believes that education has the potential to positively impact every aspect of an individual’s life and feels privileged to have the opportunity to support future nurses in their personal and professional development.
Susannah’s primary teaching interests include emergency nursing, fundamental nursing care, health promotion, health improvement, preparation for clinical practice. She is pillar guardian for Fundamentals Essentials of Nursing Care.
