Overview
Marcus is the Unit of Activity Manager for the NIHR Exeter Clinical Research Facility and oversees technical standards for the RILD Building and associated laboratories and clinical areas. He provides management, mentorship and training of staff involved in the technical aspects of clinical & medical research.
His role ensures that building infrastructure, systems and services are maintained to deliver clinical and medical research to appropriate governance standards and to ensure the technical team supports clinical research studies to deliver to time and target. As the RILD building is a joint site Marcus is a key contact and leads on joint laboratory working practices to ensure that NHS and University staff in shared areas are compliant with Health & Safety Legislation and meet the requirements of GLP, GCP, HTA and other relevant statutes.
Marcus started a scientific career in 1989 at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton and began training as Medical Laboratory Scientific Officer. In 1992 he moved into the academic realm working as a research technician for a neuroscience group based at Sussex University, from there 15 years at Nottingham University managing their research laboratories until moving to the South West in 2009.
