Dr Emily Haynes

Emily is a Research Associate at the European Centre for Environment and Human Health (ECEHH). She has a background in nutrition and is a Registered Dietitian and Anthropometrist. Emily's general research interests are food environments and obesity prevention policy, including the health, social, and environmental impacts of global shifts in dietary patterns. Emily also has an interest in physical activity and exercise for overweight and obesity, on which she is leading a large Cochrane review update.
Emily holds a PhD from Bond University in Queensland, Australia. During this PhD she studied the perceived ‘intrusiveness’ of government-led action to prevent obesity in Australia, and compared stakeholder perspectives to existing ethical frameworks.
At ECEHH, Emily works on the Community Food and Heath (CFaH) project and applies her nutritional knowledge to explore the impacts of community food production in Small Island Developing States, specifically Fiji and the Caribbean. Emily is also involved in the Active Travel Synthesis (AcTS) Study which aims to develop innovative methods to synthesise large qualitative data sets.
