Syed Marwan is a PhD candidate at the University of Exeter under the supervision of Sean Flynn to study mechanisms of enhancer function in neuronal cells. He graduated from the University of Manchester with a Bachelor's in Biochemistry and a Master's with Distinction in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology, gaining experience in Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, and Systems Biology. His research experience includes perturbation of non-coding genomic elements in K562 cells via CRISPR-Cas9, transcriptomic analysis of wdr-5(-) and rbbp-5(-) of C. elegans, differential abundance analysis of synovial fibroblast cells from rheumatoid arthritis patients, and simulating H3K9 methylation dynamics in R. He also has hands-on experience in R, Python, and Linux programming.
