Mr Saul Stevens

Saul Stevens is a Health Economist at the Peninsula Technology Assessment Group (PenTAG), University of Exeter. PenTAG is one of 11 research units in the UK providing expert advice on the clinical and cost-effectiveness of new medicines and technologies to the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE)

His research focuses on the evaluation of innovative health technologies, particularly medical devices, diagnostics, and digital health technologies. He is interested in developing and applying methods that better capture the complexity of these interventions and generate evidence on the real-world impact of technology adoption and commissioning decisions within healthcare systems.

Prior to joining PenTAG, Saul worked with SMEs in the medical technology sector, supporting evidence generation, evaluation, and market access activities. During this time, he led a range of health economic and mixed-methods research projects commissioned by regional and national healthcare organisations.

Alongside his research, Saul contributes to the advancement of medical device assessment methodologies through his role as Technical Officer for the Medical Devices Interest Group at Health Technology Assessment International (HTAi). He is also a founding member of the Health Economics Network at the Association of Professional Healthcare Analysts (AphA). Saul is also a member of the Steering Committee for the Startup and Innovator Accelerator Programme at UK Digital Health and Care (UKDHC)
