Health and Community Sciences

Simon joined the University of Exeter Medical School in September 2012. Since April 2020 he has primarily worked with the Exeter PRP Evidence Review Facility as a systematic reviewer and information specialist. His role focuses on carrying out systematic reviews and other types of evidence synthesis commissioned by the NIHR Policy Research Programme to inform health and social care policy in the UK. While the remit for this research is broad, he has a particular interest in research on access to health care for underserved population groups, particularly as this relates to wider social determinants of health.

Simon came to systematic reviews through an information specialist post at the University of Warwick in 2011-2012. This followed working in a library setting in a large teaching hospital in the North West of England. At the University of Exeter he has worked across multiple NIHR programme grants and been a co-applicant on several HSDR and HTA funded systematic reviews, both as a systematic reviewer and information specialist.

His research has resulted in over 80 peer-reviewed journal articles and three monograph chapters, including 20 journal articles as lead author. Publications include systematic reviews, methodological studies, guidance and commentaries.
