Graduate Research Assistant
Public Health and Sport Sciences

Rowan Streckfuss Davis is an early career researcher based in the Children and Young People's Mental Health Research Collaboration (ChYMe) at the University of Exeter. He is interested in health systems and using qualitative and mixed methods approaches to address health inequalities across the lifespan. His particular topic interests include suicide and self-harm, emotion regulation, and co-design/participatory research.

Rowan currently works across projects that explore and evaluate support systems impacting youth mental health and wellbeing:

  • The 4S Study (PI: Dr Abigail Russell) is a qualitative study to explore young people's experiences of suicide and self-harm support in schools and youth organisations
  • Families' Lives, Families' Futures (PI: Prof Vashti Berry) is an implementation process evaluation to understand the impacts of a trial of unconditional cash transfers to families with a child in need

Rowan is the principal investigator on a scoping study to explore and map strengths-based concepts in gender healthcare, funded by an NIHR SPHR Early Career Researcher Network (ResNet) grant.

Rowan has previously worked on research evaluating potential harms in school mental health interventions; assessing the impact and potential for digital platforms in mental health research; co-designing and co-producing mental health research in partnership with communities; and exploring positive experiences and emotions around gender identity.

Rowan has previously worked in roles within the NHS and with LGBTQ+ youth organisations.

Rowan is one of two representatives at Exeter for ResNet, the early career researcher network for NIHR's School of Public Health Research.
