Public Health and Sport Sciences

Bekkah is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Public Health and Sport Sciences. She is currently working as part of the Kailo team on a realist-informed impact evaluation. The project aims to help local communities, young people and public service partnerships better understand and address the root causes (and wider determinants) of young people's mental health.

Prior to this, Bekkah worked on the Safeguarding Family Group Conference study. The project aimed to understand how Family Group Conferences could be embedded as an alternative to Initial Child Protection Conferences to improve outcomes for children and families on the Child Protection pathway.

Bekkah undertook a PhD in Social Policy at the University of Edinburgh. Her PhD research focused on identifying the gendered factors enabling and constraining young women’s daily journeys and their use of public space in Inverness, Scotland. During her PhD, Bekkah also worked as an intern at the University of Edinburgh’s End Violence Lab where she contributed to publications on preventing violence in childhood. Before starting her PhD, Bekkah completed as MSc in Childhood Studies at the University of Edinburgh, and worked for several years in the community and youth development sector.
