Dr Paul McCrorie

Paul McCrorie is a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Public Health and Sports Sciences, Exeter Medical School, having moved to Exeter following 13 years at the Scoial and Public Health Sciences Unit (SPHSU), University of Glasgow.
Paul has applied research experience addressing inequalities in the built, natural and social environments that shape children and young people’s play behaviours, with expertise in outdoor play, physical activity, nature exposure, and developmental/social/behavioural outcomes. His work has been funded by the ESRC, MRC, and Scottish Government.
Paul has been a non-executive Director of Actify since 2017, a Scottish Social Enterprise organisation established to translate and mobilse physical activity related evidence for use by teachers, practitioners, coaches, and other stakeholders involved in physical activity promotion or delivery. In 2026, he joined the editorial board of the Journal of Physical Activity and Health (JPAH) as a strong advocate for lifelong active play.
