About me:
The focus of Melvyn’s research is physical activity epidemiology and public health. He has published a number of articles on exercise promotion and has been involved in the evaluation of a number of large community exercise interventions in the UK. He has served on a range of government committees as well as charity expert groups and NICE guideline committees. His current research is directed towards the development of digital measures of physical activity with a view to better understand how physical activity relates to health. Melvyn is also the university lead Activity Informatics - a specialist research capability in human physical activity and behaviour measurement. Activity Informatics is a collaboration between the University of Exeter and Activinsights that offers a complete service for public-funded research and clinical trials wanting to use wearable devices. The offering includes all aspects of trial management: deploying/retrieving devices, managing data and processing digital health biomarkers.
Melvyn is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers and co-authored the book ‘Changing Eating & Exercise Behaviour: A handbook for professionals’.
