Emma Bland is a founding member of the European Centre for Environment and Human Health, and is a Co-Director of Business Engagement and Innovation for the Department of Public Health and Sports Sciences.

 

Throughout Emma’s career, she has been interested in how people are impacted, and impact their environment, and associated issues of equity and wellbeing. She has considerable experience in building trans-disciplinary research projects across public, private, and not-for-profit sectors to explore the complex interplay between these areas.

 

Research interests are in:

  • climate change adaptation, leading the award winning Local Climate Adaptation Tool project; and
  • how understanding the indoor environment can support improved health outcomes - PI/CoI on a number of projects to exploring healthier in-door environments to improve health outcomes. 

 

In addition, Emma is also co-Director of Business Engagement and Innovation she has a particular interest in developing approaches to support SMEs collaborate with the research community.

 

Following degrees in environmental biology and soil conservation, Emma first worked in sustainable development before moving to the higher education sector. She joined the Medical School in 2004, since when she has built cross-sector strategic partnerships, helping to developing health and wellbeing research capacity to address 21st century challenges, moving from a professional services to academic role in 2020.
