Dr Dimitris Vlachopoulos is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Public Health and Sport Sciences at Exeter Medical School, with over 10 years’ experience designing, validating, and deploying population-scale prevention and performance systems across healthcare, public health, education, and industry.

His work sits at the intersection of digital health, musculoskeletal science, and population health, translating clinical and behavioural evidence into scalable, real-world systems using wearables, movement sensors, AI-enabled analytics, and outcome-driven frameworks.

He has led and contributed to multimillion-euro international programmes, including Marie Curie and Horizon Europe, as well as national health-system and UNICEF-aligned initiatives, supporting the delivery of digital screening, monitoring, and behaviour-change platforms at national and organisational level.

Alongside academic leadership at the University of Exeter, he works closely with health-tech companies, healthcare providers, insurers, ministries, and public bodies, supporting the design, clinical validation, and real-world evaluation of measurable, KPI-driven health solutions spanning prevention, rehabilitation, and performance.

He has authorised access to, and extensive experience working with, large, high-quality population datasets, including UK Biobank, Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC), and international cohorts on movement behaviour, growth, and health, supporting surveillance, evaluation, and policy-relevant decision-making.
