About me:

A former GP and involved in care of people with dementia, Catherine joined the Centre for Research in Ageing and Cognitive Health (REACH) at the University of Exeter Medical School, undertaking a PhD. Catherine investigated issues around awareness of difficulties in people with mild-to-moderate dementia and developed a new clinical interview for assessing awareness.

Catherine currently holds an NIHR Dementia Capacity-Building Postdoctoral Fellowship with the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration South West (PenARC), and continues to work with the REACH team. She is researching person-centred approaches to supporting people with dementia and carers, when there are problems due to lack of awareness (also known as anosognosia).

Catherine trained in medicine at St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School, including an intercalated degree in psychology at UCL. She worked as a GP in Hackney, then in South Bristol, before moving into dementia care research in 2018 with a clinical training fellowship funded by Alzheimer’s Society.
