About me:
I am a diabetes Research Project and Trial Manager and PhD student with the Exeter Clinical Diabetes Research team with a focus on stratification of treatment in Type 2 diabetes. I manage NIHR and BRC projects within the diabetes theme and support researchers more widely in areas including genetics of diabetes, and diagnosis and treatment of Type 2 diabetes in sub-Saharan Africa.
My role with the NIHR Exeter Biomedical Research Centre includes managing the MRC-funded MASTERMIND research project, aiming to develop a treatment selection model for Type 2 diabetes. I also manage the NIHR-funded Global Health project working to improve diabetes diagnosis and treatment in sub-Saharan Africa in collaboration with partners in Uganda, Cameroon, Malawi and South Africa. I previously ran the TriMaster clinical trial, a randomised double-blind three-way crossover trial of third-line diabetes therapies aiming to improve diabetes care by identifying groups of patients who may respond better to certain diabetes treatments.
I am also a part-time PhD student looking at stratified medicine and treatment hetergeneity in Type 2 Diabetes.
I am based in the Clinical Diabetes research group, and part of the NIHR BRC and CRF teams, in the Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences. Previous studies include the MASTERMIND and RetroMASTER clinical studies, work with the Stroke Research Network for the INTERSTROKE study and the EU IMI-DIRECT and FP7-CEED3 projects.
Interests:
My work is largely in clinical trials and research projects linked to stratification of Type 2 diabetes.
