Dr Amicia Phillips

Amicia is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Exeter Medical School with an expertise in the ethical, legal, and social dimensions of genomic medicine. Her current research, in collaboration with researchers from the Oxford Centre for Personalised Medicine, explores the ethical challenges of integrating genomics into newborn screening. The project utilises both qualitative and quantitative research methods to provide insights to inform national decision-making regarding genomic newborn screening.

Building upon her doctoral research, which analysed the ethical and policy issues surrounding communicating genetic risk in families, Amicia uses a variety of normative and empirical methodologies. Her work aims to provide nuanced understandings of ethical and regulatory landscapes, that incorporate diverse stakeholder perspectives and experiences.

In addition to her research, Amicia also has experience teaching and supervising at the master’s level, including for programmes in bioethics, pharmaceutical sciences, and sociology.
