Alex is a Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences in the Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences, within the University of Exeter Medical School. His teaching covers the BSc Biomedical Sciences, BSc Sport and Exercise Medical Sciences, BMBS (Medicine) and MSc Immunology programmes. His area of expertise lies in Immunology, with a particular focus in pulmonary immunology. Other knowledge expertise areas lie within the various key cell signalling systems that underpin cellular physiology. His award-winning teaching style incorporates a deep understanding of human physiology, a great deal of enthusiasm for learning alongside a strong sense of humour. Combined with an unwavering passion for supporting students both academically and pastorally, Alex is beloved by staff and students alike. 

 

He is the Senior Academic Conduct Officer for the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, ensuring good academic practice is maintained across the 6 departments within the Faculty. In this position, he educates students of how to approach work with an academically honest perspective, alongside guiding students to ethically integrate generative AI into their studies. 

 

His current interests reside in the use of generative AI in the Higher Education environment, with a keen focus on how to embed these tools into academic practice in a fair and equitable manner. Other academic interests lie in improving awareness around vaccination misinformation, emerging vaccine technologies, and future risks posed by electronic cigarette use.
