World-renowned clinical epidemiologist to visit Exeter

A world-renowned expert in diagnostic test evaluation will come to Exeter in March as a Visiting International Academic Fellow at the University of Exeter Medical School.

Professor Patrick Bossuyt is Professor of Clinical Epidemiology at the Amsterdam Medical Centre of the University of Amsterdam, where his research has a particular focus on the development of methods for the evaluation of tests and biomarkers in medicine. He is the lead for the Standards for Reporting of Diagnostic Accuracy (STARD) guidelines – the internationally recognised standard for reporting studies of test accuracy.

Professor Bossuyt will be based at the St Luke’s Campus between March 7 and 18. There is the opportunity for researchers to meet Prof Bossuyt to discuss potential projects and to get methodological advice. The schedule of opportunities to engage will be publicised in February but if you would like to meet Patrick or participate in the seminars he will lead, contact Prof Chris Hyde, who is coordinating his visit.

An example of his previous lectures can be viewed here.

Professor Stuart Logan, Head of the Medical School’s Institute of Health Research, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Patrick to UEMS. He has made an enormous contribution to the development of methods in health research, particularly around the understanding of the diagnosis. This is a unique opportunity for the Medical School and I would encourage colleagues to take up the opportunity to learn from him.”
