Meet the team

Julia Frost is an Associate Professor in Health Services Research. Her interests are: Qualitative research and clinical trials, synthesis of qualitative research, and self-management of long term conditions. She has undertaken research about an intervention for carers of people with heart failure, diabetes and quality of life, management methods for pregnancy loss, decision aids for operative delivery, and outcome measures for neurology. She has worked as a cardiac intensive care nurse and is Programme Lead for the MSc in Applied Health Services Research.

Dr Conny Guell is a medical anthropologist researching practices and policies related to physical activity and nutrition. This includes active living infrastructure and food systems.

Conny’s work focuses on how healthy living is shaped across the lifecycle, within population groups, and in and by various socio-cultural, political and economic contexts. Her work is based in the UK, the Caribbean region and elsewhere.

Conny is particularly interested in developing social theoretical and participatory qualitative methodological approaches for exploring the social and physical environments that shape health behaviours, policies and intervention outcomes.

Rohini is an experienced researcher who splits her time between her role as an advisor for the NIHR Research Design Service (RDS) and working on health services research projects, particularly randomised trials of complex health interventions. In her RDS role, Rohini often provides specialist support in qualitative research methods. With a background in psychology, Rohini has a long standing interest in chronic health conditions, women’s health, behaviour change and non-pharmacological approaches to pain management.

Jo Day is a psychologist and a Research Fellow for the National Institute for Health Research CLAHRC South West Peninsula (PenCLAHRC). Her work involves qualitative approaches to understanding and evaluating how to put effective health and social care into practice. Jo has methodological expertise in qualitative evaluation and research, realist methods, narrative approaches, implementation science and knowledge translation. Current work includes developing our understanding of how care home managers implement changes; and researching and evaluating the processes involved in implementing evidence-based initiatives in acute settings.
