Oksana is a PhD student at the University of Exeter Medical School, supervised by Professor Richard Neal and Dr Jess Bollen. Her project is looking at a new machine-learning based test to facilitate the earlier diagnosis of upper gastrointestinal tract cancers in primary care. This work will be include both quantitative and qualitative study methods and a systematic review at the beginning of the project. 

 

Oksana completed an MSci degree in Medicinal Chemistry at UCL, where she developed new cytotoxic compounds to use as potential cancer treatments. Prior to starting the PhD, she worked as a Biospecimen Coordinator in GI clinical trials at the Royal Marsden Hospital, where her  academic interests shifted from pre-clinical drug discovery to translational and implementation studies. Oksana's interests are early cancer diagnosis in primary care, implementation of new diagnostic tools and improving patient outcomes.
