I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow who has been based at the University since 2006. My research focuses on systems approaches to public health, with particular interests in obesity prevention and treatment, health promotion, and food provision within school settings.
My work is underpinned by a strong commitment to participatory research. I actively involve stakeholders throughout the research process and facilitate a Young Person’s Advisory Group to ensure that young people’s perspectives meaningfully inform research design, delivery, and impact.
My PhD by publication explored the application of Complex Adaptive Systems approaches to support schools in creating the conditions necessary for effective and sustainable health promotion.
Research Projects:
NEWA (National Evaluation of Weight-medication Access): Evaluating models of care to support equitable, national access to weight management medication in England.
Mandatory Energy Labelling Evaluation: A mixed-methods study examining the impact of calorie labelling in out-of-home food environments, including purchasing behaviours, population health outcomes, and the perspectives of young people.
ASET Fellowship: Investigating how to promote healthy lifestyle behaviours among adolescents in English secondary schools, using a complex systems approach to understand how conditions for health promotion can be created.
RIVA (mateRnIty Violence Advisors): Evaluating models of Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) provision within maternity care settings.
NIHR Applied Research Collaboration Southwest Peninsula (PenARC): Contributing to the Child Health and Maternity programme.
Healthy Lifestyles Programme (HeLP): Supporting the development and evaluation of school-based health promotion interventions.
