Neurodegeneration Imaging Group

The Neurodegeneration Imaging Group (NIG)

The Neurodegeneration Imaging Group (NIG) is a world-leading academic group that performs clinical research on the causes and mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, using imaging tools such as Positron Emission tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). These diseases include, but are not limited to, Parkinson’s Disease, Atypical Parkinsonisms, Huntington’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease.

Neurodegenerative diseases are one of the most frequent causes of disability, direct and indirect costs, and death worldwide, and have been identified as one of the major burdens of all healthcare. The vision of NIG is to identify mechanisms of disease that could help for early diagnosis, tracking of progression, and as outcome measures for clinical trials on disease-modifying agents. The NIG has established strategic interactions with other national and international groups, as well as with patient associations, to promoting public engagement and understanding of our science.
