About me:

Dr Nyinoh is a lecturer in Clinical and Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS). As part of my role, I teach/facilitate a wide variety of modules on several programmes, such as BMBS, Medical Sciences, Neuroscience, and Sports and Exercise Medical Sciences. Furthermore, I supervise undergraduate students and act as an Academic Personal Tutor. I am also the Deputy Module Lead for the optional Decolonising Medicine and Health module (CSC2025). Additionally, I lead practical session on the widening participation program of the Medical School, Devon Healthcare Hub and the Black Heritage Universities Group's (B-HUGS) involving black students at St. James Academy in Exeter. Winnie is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Exeter Education Incubator Fellow, and Global Classroom Fellow.

In my role as the BMBS Race Equality Resource Officer (RERO Devon), I support BMBS students raising concerns about any discriminatory experiences they may face on the campuses and in clinical placement sites and seeking support promptly. Therefore, contributing to the University's Race Equality Charter (REC), which aims to enhance the representation, advancement, and success of minority ethnic students in higher education.As part of this, I lead on several initiatives, including the CBS BAME Student Peer Mentoring Programme, co-lead for the CBS Wellbeing Inclusion and Culture Committee (WICC) International Student and Ethnic Minority Student Work Stream, and organize networking events for international and ethnic minority students. Additionally, I deliver the BMBS Year 3 EDI Induction on "Navigating Microaggression in Clinical Placement, the role of bystander".

 

Winnie received her PhD from the School of Biosciences and Medicine at the University of Surrey investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying drug synergy in mycobacteria. During that time, I served as a volunteer student panel member for the validation and review committee, in the Directorate of Quality Enhancements and Standards. Also, I organized the 4th postgraduate research conference (2014) at Surrey with other postgraduate students. As a PhD student, I supported teaching for the following modules: Lab induction; Microbiology; Cellular & Molecular Microbiology; Cellular Microbiology & Virology; Biomedical Microbial Products & Advances in Nutrition; Molecular Biology & Genetics; Molecular Biology & Genetics, Introduction to the Microbial World. Her areas of expertise are microbiology, molecular biology, and public health.

 

I began my lectureship journey at Benue State University, Nigeria. While in that role, I taught microbiology, biotechnology, genetics, and microbial genetics/biochemistry, molecular biology courses, supervised internships, and led field trips. Additionally, I held various roles and served on various committees, including examination officer, faculty representative, secretary of quality assurance, development of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, and supervised undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
