About me:
Shalinee is a Lecturer in Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences, involved in teaching Medicine and Medical Sciences programmes. She joined University of Exeter in 2017 as Postdoctoral Research Fellow, subsequently transitioning into a teaching role. Currently a Lecturer, she is the Academic Lead for Student Support (Racial equality & Inclusion), Lead Academic Tutor for BSc Medical Sciences Profession Training Year (PTY), Term Lead for Year 2 BMBS and Module Lead on the module Decolonisation of Medicine.
Interests:
Shalinee has a strong interest in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) matters, driven by a commitment to creating inclusive environments where everyone feels valued and respected. She is passionate about advocating for underrepresented groups, promoting equal opportunities, and fostering a culture of belonging. Her focus is on developing and implementing strategies that support diversity and inclusion, ensuring that all voices are heard and that systemic barriers are addressed.
Shalinee is also passionate about decolonisation of medicine and medical curriculum, working to challenge and dismantle the colonial biases ingrained in healthcare systems. She focuses on promoting culturally sensitive practices, amplifying marginalised voices, and integrating Indigenous and non-Western perspectives into medical education and practice. By advocating for a more inclusive and equitable medical curriculum, Shalinee aims to contribute to a more just and inclusive healthcare system.
