Milly Upton is the Pastoral Mentor for Clinical and Biomedical Sciences and the Lead Pastoral Mentor for the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.
Milly is a highly experienced and well‑regarded Pastoral Mentor who plays a key role in supporting student wellbeing across her department. She is known for her warm, approachable style and her ability to quickly build trust with students and colleagues alike.
In her role, Milly provides tailored one‑to‑one support, helping students navigate personal challenges, manage academic pressures, and feel confident throughout their university experience. Students frequently seek her out for her balanced, compassionate guidance and her commitment to ensuring everyone feels listened to and supported. Her approach centres on creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where every student feels heard, valued, and empowered.
Milly brings extensive safeguarding and wellbeing expertise, including risk assessment, support planning, data‑led decision‑making, conflict resolution, and managing sensitive cases such as harassment, bullying, and misconduct. Her strong collaborative approach means she works effectively across teams and services to put the right support in place for every student. She is recognised within her area for her calm professionalism, sound judgement, and ability to handle complex situations with care. As the Lead Pastoral Mentor, Milly plays a key role in shaping the pastoral provision within the Pastoral Mentor role. She is responsible for ensuring a consistent, high‑quality approach to student support within the faculty, offering guidance to colleagues, sharing best practice, and helping to embed a supportive, student‑centred culture that reflects the values of the University.
