About me:
Kaiyven was raised in Cameroon where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Medical laboratory sciences. He later on obtained funding from the Commonwealth Association to study a Masters in Immunology at the University of the West of England and a PhD at the University of Exeter. Kaiyven is interested in understanding the role of anti-inflammatory cytokines in the protection of beta cell inflammation in type 1 diabetes.
Interests:
I am focused on studying the role of the transcription factor STAT6 in beta health. In particular we have shown that STAT6 activation protects beta cell from the detrimental actions of pro-inflammatory cytokines. We have shown that the activation of STAT6 by IL-4 and IL-13 increases the expression of a previously unregnised signal regulatory protein alpha which we are still uncovering its mechanism of protection.
Qualifications:
- BSc Medical Laboratory Sciences(Hons)
- MSc Biomedical Sciences (Immunology)
- PhD Medical Studies
