My research focuses on understanding the neurophysiological mechanisms underlying endogenous pain modulation in humans, with particular emphasis on the spinal cord, brainstem, and cortical processes. By integrating approaches from neurophysiology and psychophysics, I aim to characterise how pain is processed and modulated across different levels of the central nervous system.

A key aspect of my work involves investigating how pharmacological interventions, such antidepressants and emerging psychedelic compounds, can influence and potentially enhance endogenous pain inhibitory systems. This research seeks to contribute to the development of more effective and targeted treatments for individuals experiencing chronic pain.

Methodologically, my work relies on a combination of neurophysiological and behavioural techniques, including electromyography (EMG) and electroencephalography (EEG), to capture both peripheral and central activity. Through these approaches, I aim to bridge fundamental neuroscience with clinically relevant applications in pain management.
