About me:

David joined the Medical School in September 2014.

 

Within the Medical School, David holds a number of roles involved in providing academic support to undergraduate students. As a Senior Tutor and academic lead for the Year 1 Medical Sciences programme, David has responsibility for curriculum development for the Academic Tutor Group (ATG) framework in Year 1 and has oversight of curriculum development and academic process for all Year 1 modules.  Within Year 1, David convenes the CSC1004 Fundamental Skills for Medical Sciences module. David is also the Academic Lead for the Special Studies Unit (SSU) theme within the Medicine (BMBS) programme.

 

As an employability officer, David offers employability and careers support to undergraduate students.

 

David established a peer-mentoring scheme within the BSc. Medical Sciences programme in the 2015/16 academic year, which he continues to coordinate. Since then, a peer-mentoring scheme has also been established within thr BMBS programme. Peer mentoring is supported by the University’s Peer Programme Organiser’s Network, of which David is an active member.

 

David is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA/Advance HE)

2000 – BSc.(hons) Medical Microbiology – University of Edinburgh

2007 – Ph.D – Molecular chaperones in the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway – University of Edinburgh

2011 – Postgraduate certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education

2019 – Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy/Advance HE
