About me:
I am an infection doctor completing specialty training in the South West region. Throughout my career I have developed an interest in tropical diseases and issues of global health importance. Previously I completed a PhD at Imperial College London (Prof Graham Cooke and Dr Marcus Dorner) using novel and established cell culture systems to study hepatitis C virus and resistance to NS5A inhibitors – one of three new classes of direct-acting antivirals that have revolutionised the treatment of HCV. During this period, I was the trial doctor for several HCV interventional studies and worked within a group at the forefront of efforts to achieve elimination of viral hepatitis as a global public health threat by 2030.
I am currently an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow and have spent time attached to Prof. Elaine Bignell's group at the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology. I am also leading a COG-UK funded genomic epidemiology analysis of nosocomial SARS-CoV-2 transmission at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital alongside Dr David Studholme.
