About me:
Catherine has been part of the clinical diabetes research team, led by Prof Andrew Hattersley since 2010, working on clinical research projects in diabetes, including genetics of diabetes and most recently stratification of Type 2.
She is a diabetes trial manager for the NIHR Exeter Biomedical Research Centre and manages the MRC-funded MASTERMIND research project, aiming to develop a treatment selection model for Type 2 diabetes. She also manages the NIHR Global Health project working to improve diabetes diagnosis and treatment in sub-Saharan Africa in collaboration with partners in Uganda, Cameroon, Malawi and South Africa. She previously managed the TriMaster clinical trial, a randomised double-blind three-way crossover trial of third-line diabetes therapies aiming to improve diabetes care by identifying groups of patients who may respond better to certain diabetes treatments.
Alongside this role she is a part-time PhD student looking at stratified medicine and treatment hetergeneity in Type 2 Diabetes.
Catherine is based in the Clinical Diabetes research group, and is part of the NIHR BRC and CRF teams, in the Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences, within the University of Exeter Medical School. Previous studies include the MASTERMIND and RetroMASTER clinical studies, work with the Stroke Research Network for the INTERSTROKE study and the EU IMI-DIRECT and FP7-CEED3 projects.
