About me:

Annika joined the College of Medicine and Health at the University of Exeter in 2021 for her PhD. She is currently working with Dr. Rachel Freathy, Dr. Jack Bowden and Prof. Krasimira Tsaneva-Atanasova. Her project focuses on using genetics to understand causal mechanisms underlying obesity-related pregnancy outcomes for mothers and babies.

Using mathematical and statistical tools to understand and investigate medical systems has driven her academic career so far. Annika completed a BSc in Mathematical Biometry at Ulm University with a year abroad at Swansea University. She was selected to present her bachelor thesis on “Operating Characteristics for Surrogate Endpoints” at the GMDS & CEN-IBS conference in 2020. To expand her knowledge on mathematical methods she completed a MSc in Mathematical Modelling in Biology and Medicine at the University of Exeter prior to her PhD.
