Overview

I am a molecular ecologist with a specific interest in the evolution and ecology of plasmids and antibiotic resistance genes. In my current work I look at how being embedded in a complex community changes selection dynamics for antimicrobial resistance genes mainly using a pig gut microbiome model. My past research focused mainly on the wide spread of plasmids in microbial communities and how the permissiveness of microbial communities towards plasmids is altered under varying environmental conditions.

On the side I am focussing on the evolutionary effects of microplastic polution on microbial communities.

I joined the University of Exeter on an MRC/BBSRC funded postdoc in 2015 and am currently holding a Marie Curie Individual Postdoc fellowship through the EU's Horizon 2020 program.
