Overview

Professor Philip Evans is an academic GP and was, until his recent retirement, 31 years as a GP partner in St Leonard’s Practice, Exeter. He has recently been appointed as Deputy Medical Director of the NIHR Clinical Research Network within the Coordinating Centre and was, until recently, the NIHR CRN National Specialty Lead for Primary Care. He is Professor of Primary Care Research in the University of Exeter.  He has over 25 years’ experience of leading primary care research networks, both locally and nationally.  

Broad research interests

Phil has a long-standing research interest in continuity of care in general practice, as well as prediabetes/ type 2 diabetes and more recently primary care genomics. He is particularly interested in issues related to screening in general practice, prevention of type 2 diabetes and the management of pre-diabetes and similar disorders.

He has a generic interest in primary care research through his CRN role and in particular randomised trials within the primary care setting.
