Overview

I am Chartered Psychologist (BPS) and Health Psychologist registered with the HCPC.

I am currently employed as a Research Fellow at the University of East Anglia and privately as an independant chartered psychologist.

As a mixed methods researcher (quantitative and qualitative), my areas of work focus around that of health psychology and behaviour change (especially in the fields of physical activity, healthy eating/nutrition and weight loss/management and control) to enhance healthy ageing across the life course.

My interests surround intervention design, evaluation and analysis; raising the profile and importance of the translation of theory to practice (implementation science); and the teaching and training of facilitation (and associated) staff in client centred commuinication skills to enable successful conversations around behaviour change;  as well as providing support and strategies to enable all individuals to feel empowered to make thier own positive lifestyle choices.

I have been working in the field of diabetes for getting on for 2 decades, and have keen interests in the prevention and management of the condition in all its forms.

PhD

My research centres on self-regulation, action and coping planning in a ‘pre-diabetes’ population on maintenance of health behaviours in a type 2 diabetes prevention intervention.  Particular interest is the content of behavioural goal specifications as part of a written action plan and how this content relates to weight loss.  My PhD at Exeter is under the supervision of Professor Colin Greaves (B'ham) and Dr Jane Smith
