Overview

Max is Research Fellow in Health Technology Assessment (Project Manager), working with the Peninsula Technology Assessment Group (PenTAG), one of 11 research units in the UK providing expert advice on the clinical- and cost-effectiveness of new drugs and medical devices to the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NICE) Technology Appraisal committees. PenTAG also supports the work of NICE's Medical Technologies Evaluation Programme and the Singapore Ministry of Health. Max's primary expertise is in clinical effectiveness systematic reviewing, epidemiology, health policy and methods for systematic and realist reviews.

Research interests

My research interests are twofold:

a. Social epidemiology and health policy, especially on a global scale.

b. The use of systematic and realist review methods for evidence synthesis

Research projects

Recent commissioned policy projects include:

a. Ivosidenib with azacitidine for untreated IDH1-positive acute myeloid leukaemia.

b. Digital pulmonary rehabilitation technologies for adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

c. Treatments for renal cell carcinoma.

d. Virtual reality for treating agoraphobia and agoraphobic avoidance: early value assessment.

e. Axicabtagene ciloleucel for relapsed/refractory large B-cell lymphoma.
