I work as PA to Professor Angela Shore, Scientific Director of the NIHR Exeter Clinical Research Facility and Professor of Cardiovascular Sciences. I provide extensive support through diary management, organisation and co-ordination of meetings and events, dealing with routine correspondence and making travel arrangements. I enjoy working closely with colleagues within the College of Medicine and Health and the university as a whole and also with the many clinical and research staff I work with every day on the RD&E site.
I have reduced my working hours to only two days a week (usually Monday and Tuesday) and am now enjoying having time for all the hobbies that have suffered from serious neglect in the past 40 years. I will retire completely at the end of May 2021.
Having trained as a Director's secretary at Pitman's in London back in the 1970s, I worked in that role at several different companies based in central London. I then worked as a PA/administrator at various German universities for over 20 years before returning to the UK in 2014 to care for my ailing mother. I joined the University of Exeter on a part-time basis that same year as maternity leave cover in CLES, following which I enjoyed short stints in several departments as a member of the Temporary Staff Bank before joining the Medical School as PA to Professor Angela Shore on a permanent basis in February 2016.
