Professor Ian Fussell

Ian has worked in Cornwall as a doctor since 1990 and for the Medical School ever since it first opened in the South West. He has worked in NHS managment as the Senior Medical Advisor for the local Primary Care Trust with responsibilities including oversight of the GP performers list, serious untoward event investigations, leading the regional GP Appraisal Team and quality monitoring of general practice. He has been a member of the national Revalidation Developmant Team and a Cabinet Member of the Assosciation for Medical Humanities.
He is the Community Sub Dean for Cornwall and the Clinical SSU Lead for UEMS and as moducle lead in the MSc in Clinical Education in Exeter. Currently he is the interim Vice Dean of Education for the College of Medicine and Health
Ian is a clinician working as GP in the Emergency Deapartment at Roya; Cornwwall Hospital in Truro, having been a GP partner for over 20 years.
He is interested in the use of IT in Medical Education, Medical Education, Global Health, and Event Medicine. He organises teams of medical students to help provide first aid care at Glastonbury Festival and supervises students visiting a medical School in Ethiopia where he helped establish a link. He is a trustee of a charity helping bringing freash water to the region in conjunction with the Red Cross.
Ian is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an Associate Professor.
