My time is split between working as a Consultant Anaesthetist at the RD&E Hospitals and a Senior Lecturer in Physiology at the Medical School.

I have had a substantial role in the design and delivery of the undergraduate physiology curriculum in Years 1 and 2, and have been the Lead for the End of Year 1 Exam since 2010.

I am a tutor for the Doctors as Teachers SSU in Year 4.

Career

I trained in anaesthesia in Gloucester, Cardiff and Bristol, with a year spent overseas in each of Wisconsin, USA and Adelaide, Australia. I started as a Consultant in Exeter in 1989 and was appointed Senior Lecturer in Physiology in 2005.

Areas of published research include cardiac electrophysiology, pharmacokinetics, spinal and epidural anaesthesia and airway safety.

I was a Royal College examiner for Primary FRCA from 1999-2012 and external examiner for King's College London from 2009-2014.

I was one of the editors for the Dept of Health e-Learning programme for anaesthesia, completed in 2013.
