 Environment and Sustainability Institute 2.16

Environment and Sustainability Institute, University of Exeter, Penryn Campus, Penryn, Cornwall, TR10 9FE, UK

As a laboratory manager, I have the overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the labs at the Environment and Sustainability Institute at the Penryn campus. I set up and maintain all aspects of the laboratory environment such as: timely maintenance of equipment, creation and management of lab-related documentation and standard operating procedures, supervision of general workflow and coordination of activities throughout the laboratory. On top of my daily activities, I advise and assist with the completion of CoSHH and Risk Assessments and I ensure that current Health and Safety policies and procedures are followed.

My personal mission is making sure that the ESI labs are a place where the structure and organisation of the lab facilities promotes natural collaboration rather than incites conflict. Achieving that in such a multidisciplinary environment is a challenge, but thanks to collaborative spirit of ESI researchers we manage to pull it off!

Qualifications

2005 MSc Agricultural Science and Technology  (Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria, Italy).

Career

I started working as a research technician in the ESI first with UoEMS and later with prof. Angus Buckling. After 3 years the restructuring of the Technical Services gave me the opportunity to become the lab manager in the ESI.
