Anita has many years of corporate experience in the financial sector, working with large datasets and building predictive models. During her studies, Anita became interested in medical statistics and disease modelling. Her interest in diabetes is a result of her work with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board evaluating Adult Weight Management Service interventions.

Aside from her PhD, Anita enjoys learning about and tasting wine, she holds a WSET level 1 award in wine.

Research

Research interests

Anita joined the UEMS as a PhD student in October 2016 under the supervision of Dr Angus Jones, Dr Beverley Shields and Professor Andrew Hattersley.

Her research focuses on diabetes classification and pathogenesis of variability in type 2 diabetes progression. This involves applying predictive and classification machine learning methods to clinical, biochemical and genetic patient data.

Follow-up research interests include the use of high dimension reduction techniques to big clinical data and health economics of diabetes classification.
