Visit marks start of international collaboration with Estonian HTA group

23 January, 2013

From the 22nd to 23rd January PenTAG hosted a visit by Prof Raul-Allan Kiivet, who leads the only health technology assessment group in Estonia, at the University of Tartu. The visit was to finalise plans for a two-year collaborative relationship between our two HTA research groups, including a programme of exchange visits. In particular, Prof Kiivet’s group in Tartu wish to benefit from PenTAG’s ten-year experience of producing high quality systematic reviews and economic models to inform NICE guidance on the adoption and use of health technologies in England and Wales.

During his stay Prof. Kiivet gave a fascinating talk on HTA in Estonia, including an introduction to the culture, health and health system of the Baltic state. The capacity-building purpose of the collaborative relationship is funded by the European Union until December 2014. The visit was a very enjoyable start to what we are sure will be a mutually beneficial collaboration, between our research groups and between the University of Exeter and the University of Tartu.
